I worked extensively with Kulia for 20 months on a project in Maui. She is an excellent structural engineer and most of all she understands construction and what helps make our work productive. She would review details with me for workability without me asking. She understands sequencing of construction. Whenever we asked her to revise a detail she would spend the time to try and follow our wishes. Her father was a superintendent for HDCC and in the 1970’s, he was an apprentice for me on HDCC projects. I believe this helped her grow up understanding construction better than most engineers. I would work with her anytime and believe she would be a great choice on most projects, especially design build.
